Medical Research

Mother & BabyStudies published in the British Medical Journal have found that 'the current method of manual scooping is very inconsistent and depends wholly on the individual's method of scooping and the pressure applied. This leaves a huge margin for error, which in turn leads to the child's bottle being over or under constituted'.

Tests conducted on mothers attending baby clinics who were asked to measure milk powder from a standard packet with the scoop provided by the manufacturers revealed wide variations in the weight of powder obtained, with the highest scoop weight (5.6 g) being double the lowest (2.8g).

Hazards Of Scoop Measurements

Miscounting formula can lead to the under or overdosing of a babies bottle, this is a major concern for health professionals who link this to malnutrition, childhood obesity and colic.

BMJ Study

Research recently released in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism links overfeeding of infants in the first nine months to childhood obesity and states that "overfeeding of formula and early introduction of high carbohydrate foods, may contribute to metabolic programming, leading to obesity, diabetes, and early cardiovascular disease in humans"
